Lighting Control Explained

Energy efficiency is increasingly high on the agenda of users and specifiers alike. Merely using an energy efficient luminaire – for which Fern-Howard is renowned – is often not enough. Similarly, safety and security during hours of darkness is also of paramount importance and simply switching luminaires off when no one is present is not satisfactory.

Installing luminaires with appropriate lighting controls can provide additional energy savings.

Fern-Howard luminaires are available with all standard Light Management Options, including 3h Emergency, Auto Test, Microwave Sensor, Photocell, DALI, Dimming and Corridor Function. Please contact us to discuss which solution would be right for you.

Photocell Luminaires

The photocell controlled Luminaire, automatically lights as daylight fades and switches off in the morning as the sun rises. The built-in photocell detects light levels and switches accordingly. Variation of natural light will cause the Luminaire to switch on and off at various times as light level alters.

For more information on set-up and testing, please download our Photocell Information Sheet.

We also sell a self-fit dusk-to-dawn photocell kit - please refer to our accessories pages.

Corridor Function

Luminaires with built in corridor function are a very simple and highly efficient way of reducing energy consumption. Wherever light has to be provided 24 hours a day for statutory reasons, the corridor function helps provide the right light, combined with energy-efficient and cost-effective operation. This economical form of 24-hour lighting is ideal for pedestrian underpasses, underground train stations, ATM booths, telephone kiosks, hotels, public buildings and hospitals.
Fern-Howard luminaires use a motion sensor in partnership with the HF electronic control gear to create optimum light out-put when it’s required.
